King of the Kitchen: What Not to Feed Your Furry Friend

If you’re anything like my human, you’re always slipping me a little something from the kitchen — and I love it! But not everything yummy for humans is safe for us pups. Some foods can be downright dangerous. In fact, there are many foods dogs should never eat because they can be harmful.
So, as the King of the Kitchen, here are my Royal Rules on what to never drop in my bowl:

1. Grapes & Raisins
These tiny fruits are mighty dangerous. Even a few can cause sudden kidney failure. No trail mix treats for me! Grapes and raisins may seem innocent, but they pack a punch that can knock a pup off their paws.
2. Onions & Garlic (Raw, Cooked, or Powdered)
They may make your meals delicious, but they can damage our red blood cells and make us very sick. So no seasoned leftovers, please. Imagine a world where your favorite dish is off-limits! That's how I feel about onions and garlic.
3. Chocolate
I know it smells amazing, but chocolate contains theobromine, which is toxic to dogs. The darker it is, the more dangerous. Hide the brownies! It’s like a siren song for my nose, but I have to resist.
4. Xylitol (Found in Sugar-Free Gum, Peanut Butter & Baked Goods)
This sneaky sweetener can drop our blood sugar dangerously low. Always read the label — especially on peanut butter! I mean, who would think something so sweet could be so sour for us pups?
5. Cooked Bones
They might seem like a treat, but cooked bones can splinter and cause serious harm to our tummies. Stick with raw bones or safe chews instead. It’s like playing with fire!
6. Avocados
Some dogs may tolerate tiny amounts, but avocados contain persin, which can upset our stomachs and is unsafe in large amounts. I’d rather stick to my kibble than risk a tummy ache!
7. Alcohol & Caffeine
Even tiny sips can cause serious symptoms — from vomiting to seizures. Let us stick to water and bone broth, thank you very much. Just think of me as your designated driver, always ready to keep it safe and sound!
The Importance of Pet Safety
Keeping our furry friends safe is a top priority. It’s not just about what we eat; it’s about our overall well-being. So, let’s make sure our kitchens are safe havens for our four-legged companions.
Fun Alternatives for Treats
Now that we know what to avoid, let’s talk about some tasty alternatives! Carrots, apples (without seeds), and peanut butter (without xylitol) can be delightful treats. They’re like little treasures that make my tail wag with joy!
Final Thoughts
In the end, being a responsible pet parent means knowing what’s safe and what’s not. I may be the King of the Kitchen, but I rely on my human to keep me healthy and happy. So, let’s keep those dangerous foods out of my bowl and fill it with love and safe treats instead!
